Increase your Life Skills



Everyone enjoys the opportunity to increase their life skills and to become more independent at home and in the community.
The many cooking programs, both group programs and individual activities have provided opportunities for increasing each persons’ life skills.  Some of the favourite activities include:

 · Preparing recipes for family meals.

 · Practicing money skills and buying lunches.

 · Learning to use the town buses and VLine.

 · Planning to obtain Learners Permit.

 · Increasing skills using computers and iPads.

 · Training in first aid.

 



Promoting Health and Wellbeing



Promoting health & wellbeing is essential for us all. A variety of activities will improve your general health and help about nutrition and fitness and to connect and communicate with others.
Becoming involved in health and well-being activities has increased the general health and fitness of many people.  The most popular choices are:

· A morning walk with friends.

· Bike riding at Deca and along the many bike trails.

· Sailing with Shepparton Sailability on Victoria Park Lake.

· Joining a class of yoga and tai chi.

· Learning new dance steps and popular dances.

· Regular visits to the gym.



 

Encouraging Sport & Leisure



Sport and leisure activities have provided a variety of new opportunities to become included in the local community:

· Both ten pin bowling and lawn bowling be popular choices.

· Learning new team games such as badminton and life ball.

· Playing football with the GV Stars.

· Joining in classes in jewellery making and scrap booking.

· Being creative in art and ceramic classes.

 


 

Continuing Education

Continuing education is a terrific step on the path the lifelong learning. Our education programs will assist you if you want to increase your literacy and numeracy skills if you want to look for work in the future.

Many people have enrolled in our continuing education courses, and have enjoyed the challenge of further education.  Our pre-accredited courses have assisted many people to improve their potential to join the work force in the future.

Courses which are very popular are Horticulture at EcoPark and Hospitality in our registered kitchen and at Eco Store.

During the year we have supported a number of people to undertake courses at GO Tafe in the areas of engineering, motor mechanics, animal studies, information technology and general studies.

 




Preparing for Work & Work Experience

 

Preparing for work experience and work have created many new extraordinary opportunities for people to begin their transition into employment.
Some of the work experience programs which are currently in place include:

· Storeman at IK Caldwells

· Data input at M&S Accounting

· IT Technician at Numurkah Community and Learning Centre

· Sales Assistant at Eco Store

· Kitchen Hand at McDonalds

· Kitchen Assistant at Hungry Jacks

· Hairdressing Assistant at Freshair

· Gardener at Nathalia Hospital

· Groundsman at St Mary’s of the Angels

· Vet Nurse Assistant at The Shepparton Veterinary Clinic

The key to the outstanding achievements of every person participating in work experience and our Community Partnership Initiative.  The initiative has inspired and motivated a variety of businesses and organisations to break down the barriers and to promote community inclusion.
